In February, San Diego, California was the site of the Annual Meeting of the International Society of Cosmetogynecology, the only U.S.-based official society representing, teaching, and providing continuing medical education in the field of women’s genital plastic and cosmetic surgery. The international meeting was attended by over 250 surgeon attendees from 4 continents.
At the meeting, Dr. Goodman was recognized as having provided the “Best Aesthetic Results in Cosmetic Genital Surgery” out of more than 100 entries.
In addition to this receiving this award, Dr. Goodman was among the Invited faculty, joining the most distinguished cosmetic gynecology surgeons from around the world. He was among a very small number of presenters asked to present two talks rather than the usual one per presenter. (As a researcher, Dr. Goodman frequently presents his published research findings, and is often asked to present “Where We Are Now” and psychosexual lectures. In recognition of his international reputation, this year the Scientific Committee asked Dr. Goodman to present two clinical “How I Do It” presentations.)
The first presentation reviewed the different methods for “California Labiaplasty,” including how to perform both linear/trim labiaplasty and V-wedge modified labiaplasty properly, and how to decide which specific surgical method to utilize. He also discussed “The Right Procedure for the Right Patient for the Right Reason.” His second presentation was on the subject of vaginal tightening operations (aka “California Vaginal Rejuvenation”) but with a twist: he discussed the advantages of performing them in his office outpatient surgical procedure suite under local anesthesia. He reviewed the benefits, including making surgery safer, with less blood loss, easier recovery, and less expense (eliminating the need for expensive use of hospital operating room and anesthesia costs.) Dr. Goodman is one of only two surgeons in the entire U.S. – the other Dr. Red Alinsod in Southern CA- who are sufficiently skilled and experienced to perform these surgeries in-office, under local anesthesia.
Dr. Goodman’s textbook, “Female Genital Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery” has sold more than 650 copies since its release almost one year ago. These sales are good for a medical textbook. The book is currently being translated into Spanish, Polish, and Portuguese. Dr. Goodman continues to teach Master’s Preceptorships with his “Labiaplasty and Vaginoplasty Training Institute of America™ (“LaVaTI™). Year-to-date he has trained surgeons from Southern California, New York City, Atlanta, Georgia, Jackson, Mississippi, Crowley, Louisiana, Lubbock, Texas, and Boise, Idaho. Dr. Goodman has thus far trained surgeons from 17 U.S. states and 4 foreign countries; his monthly training courses are fully booked through July.
